Drew a blank stare
Throwing quarters off the table, became impaired
Overcast in evening's fresh air
Downstairs snow is pushing artificial joy
And I feel like I'm halfway there
But the day's gone and I don't care
Looking like I just woke up
Canvas cloves
The ropes between us got thinner
Symmetry of days in my life
These days blend in with one another
Drew a blank stare
Throwing quarters off the table, became impaired
Overcast in evening's fresh air
Downstairs snow is pushing artificial joy
And I feel like I'm halfway there
Sunk into city life like dates in the cement
An empty mind quiet lying idle where I slept
How I used to pretend to relate
To the background tunes and foreplay in the rearview
Is this where I am supposed to be?
The day's gone
These bad habits taking over me
The same song, the same drive west
Like the grooves in my palm
I can stay gone from the space between our heads
Dizzy after everything that's wrong
If I stay in place my sleep evades
Ending up awake or just leave
Certainly a controversial direction for the band, but this album ultimately rests as my favorite from TTNG. The technical mastery of their previous albums is still present here along with some very thought provoking and philosophical lyrics. I may not always agree with the lyrical messaging, but this is an album which rewards careful listening. Syobnaf
This work embodies twists and turns with each song. Great buildups, great cut off points, atmospheric, heavy as well as bright all throughout. After many listens this album encapsulates math-rock/post-punk/post-rock exceptionally well. humongouslomghonogoufungus
